In this video I discuss some new photo technology that is making headlines, as well as some rumours and reports of what is yet to come in 2024. I give brief updates on some of the world’s top camera manufacturers including Sony, Nikon, Polaroid, and Fujifilm. 1. Intentional blurry photos trend is the worst because 99.999% of the photos look like shit. Most people people jump on something just because is popular without understanding it

  2. I LOVE my I-2.

Just got back from a trip to Shinjuku and the only camera I took was my I-2 (and about 28 packs of Polaroid film, all B&W except a handful of color packs).

An amazing city, with an amazing camera and film!

No. It’s not for everyone. It’s not for the casual user. And there is a learning curve involved. But if you’re an intentional photographer and willing to put in the time, effort (and, yes, $$), the material (camera and film) can do things that no other camera I’ve ever used in 50+ years of photography can do.

And that makes it worth every penny of cost, IMO. (And really $600 for a camera with its feature set is not outrageous – I’ve paid far more for my Leica, Mamiya, Canon, and Toyo cameras – and that’s before I bought lenses for those cameras.)

Great video on trends and tech predictions. 👍🏼

  3. I've read some news about the reintroduction of the Rollei 35 with autofocus. Coming out this summer.
I have pre-ordered the a9III after its announcement by the way. I would not have bought it in the past because of the slightly degraded image quality, but after shooting film for more than a year now made me realised how irrelevant pixel-peeping is.

  4. I’ll be honest I don’t think we’ll be seeing global shutters be common till the 2030s if even. There are so many issues with global shutter and Sony isn’t the first to try. Canon tried this years ago and stepped away from it because the problems didn’t outweigh the benefits. This is the trend, Sony is the master of influencer marketing they can drop a mediocre camera that has one INSANE technical spec… but it’s not really a good package. Because in the end Nikon has better dynamic range, or Nikon and Fuji color science out of camera is superior, or Canon makes precision bodies and superb feel, or Panasonic is making bodies a fraction the size and cost that do the same thing. The only thing keeping Sony relevant at least in my opinion is their insane influencer throw weight. I shoot mostly film nowadays but I’ve been reexploring digital and it’s the feeling I get.

  5. While it's nearly impossible to prove a negative, you should be able to find at least one person in Japan who works for Fuji in their photography department who isn't on the instax side, or is just making rolls out of old stock. You should be able to track down a factory, it would have to be huge. Chemical suppliers should be easy to discern as well. Alas an expiration date on a box does not indicate a production run. I am confident that you, or anyone, anyone in all of the film photography community should be able to do that, if Fuji is actually making film. Which they are not. Good luck!

  6. Great report. I appreciate your thoughts. As a relatively new film shooter, I'd be excited to see some of Fuji's film stocks make a comeback in NA, since it was Fuji's film simulations in part that got me interested in exploring film in the first place! Didn't love that bit about raising prices though. 😬

  7. I really hope Fuji starts making Superia X-tra again. It's my favorite color film and I haven't been able to find it for a few years now.

Do you plan to film inside any camera stores when you go to Japan? I'd be curious to see what they look like. 🤔

  8. Flash sync at any speed is wild and something I've been waiting for for a long time … and now that I barely use digital cameras they finally do it. 😂 I always envy a good blurry photo, but I almost never like my off-focus shots, and I try to let people know when they take good blurry shots. ha ha. On color: I've been sick of the "all dark and green" shots in Vogue for a while, and I hope it goes out with the pastel and desaturated colors that have dominated color film from the mid '90s until now. Give us Portra New VC, plz.

  9. I really hope that Fujifilm is going to start investing more into film photography! Literally today I dreamt of buying some rolls of Fuji Natura 1600 😂 We really need much more competition on the color film market, otherwise Kodak will be in power to do anything they want with prices.

Thanks a lot for all the hard work you’re doing on this channel! I enjoy your content so much, especially as a beginner photographer.

    I wish you a great start in 2024 🙂
