If you’re still wondering whether it’s worth it financially to get an electric vehicle, a new study out of B.C. may have an answer. After considering a number of factors, researchers at UBC found out how much you would have to drive to make an EV cost the same as a gas-powered vehicle and that it’s best to buy smaller, less expensive EVs.

  1. As an electrical engineer the power grid is not equipped to handle a full ev adoption and the government is only concerned with the sale of EVs and not the infrastructure. Unless something changes full adoption isn’t happening.

  2. I heard battery replacement is 30k to 40k including labour charged. So after 4 or 5yrs if you are ready to sell it theb buyer will say sell it for 2k because i have to change the battery soon😂

  3. 2035 is a neat trick. BC Hydro has said that it will be able to support 350,000 EV’s by 2030. There are more than 5 million road vehicles in BC.

    Oops!

Government officials should research infrastructure before laying down unworkable mandates.

  4. Trudeau’s plan to eliminate gas is idiotic and not necessary. It’s a very small problem that distracts us from, more serious issues. Good thing we are going to vote him out, in the next election.

  5. For maximum range, dont use heat or ac, dont put stuff in the trunk, and make sure your passengers are not obese. And for those chilly days when temps are below zero, well, just use your backup car (Subaru)…

  6. Too expensive, more charging stations are needed, grids need to improve like in California, takes too long to charge..too many cons and not enough pros to compensate for the price

  7. If you run out of gas, get a gas can and fill up. If you run out of electricity, tow truck. Get in an accident? EV totaled every single time. Then ur insurance rates jacks up.

  8. Wait about 15 years more and see what a problem EVs will make and its allot more expensive in the end…you can drive a gas car to 1 million miles if you take care of it with basic service, but EVs you have to change batteries and motors several times to get to that mileage…worse for the planet and worse for the pocket.

  9. He doesn’t tell you that EVs are more expensive to repair, more expensive to insure and do much more damage to roads because they are 40% heavier than gas powered vehicles. And once most people have one, charging prices will increase and they will be road taxes to pay for road repairs.

  10. imagine every time you filled up a ICE car a small amount of sand gets in the tank and its there forever. in time there will be less and less room for gas . so less distance every time you fill up . this is the issue with batteries . halfway thru the warranty you will lose a good portion of the batteries capacity. cold climates will speed this up due to more energy being used to condition(heat) the battery. they say 70k kms travelled is where you start to see the savings. and in 70k more you will want to swap out that battery

  11. As long as people still can't afford their house (NOT rental), EV does not make sense because noone wants to go and wait at the charging station for 1-2 hours. People buy EV because they can charge it at home and not visit a gas/charging station.

  12. What is the cost of replacing tires and breaks for a for a electric vehicle versus a regular vehicle or replacing batteries for that matter! Replacing batteries on a electric vehicle is astronomical.

  13. We're saving $350/month on gas alone on our 2023 Tesla EV and our first service appointment is in Jan 2026 to change cabin filter. So very happy with the EV. The government should introduce lower insurance for EVs though.

  14. Every battery that is made, there's 10lbs of waste. The mining for materials causes more pollution in one day than all of the gas powered cars do in a single year. Power goes out for a week because of a winter storm or high heat and guess what, ya godda call your neighbor that has a gas powered car. Cities towns and country's power grids can't handle charging all of the ev vehicles so power outages would happen daily and businesses would take losses due to employees not being able to make it to work, the economy would go down hill. If ya godda drive ten hours for a trip, that trip would take probably 15 or a whole day and night because of stopping to charge and then having to sleep. Why not just have every car and truck as a hybrid with battery and gas. That wouldn't happen either because the government's would take a loss. And you can't get rid of natural gasses. oh ya, not to mention that moving parts on a vehicle needs oils and lubricants so ya won't be able to get rid of the use of oil either. This whole ev thing will end and has already started going down hill.

  15. If you people in the city are do die hard we all must switch , you should come to where people like myself live and in February-30 to -40 head to Winnipeg , it’s only a 6 hr drive one way , pretend your gonna medical run !
