Cameras have come a long way over the years, and you no longer need to spend a fortune to get great photos in most cases. But how little can you get away with spending? I visit Snowdonia National park with the cheapest camera I could find on Amazon in this video, to see if a camera that has 18 megapixels and costs less than a t-shirt can deliver good results!

  1. I'm surprised you were tricked with the megapixel count, because in my photography circle we've known for years less is better and more pixels just means worse quality with cheap cameras like these. Megapixel count is just a gimmick to lure in the average consumer to put it simply.

Back in the day, my mentor's main camera was a 4MP Nikon DSLR, despite 10MP+ being the norm back then. He was wealthy so it wasn't like he couldn't afford better and newer gear. It's more about knowing what the camera can do than paper specs.

Edit: Pretty sure it was Nikon D2H.

  2. But.. who is to say that the pixel 2 is any good to start with, as to be compared against.. that's a pretty big assumption.
18 mega pixels.. is that real.. because I think the go pro's are only around 12 mega pixels.. I can only think that it was a translation from the original Chinese into Chinglish.. 18 mega pixels might include a border thickness.

Try it in action camera mode.. throw it.

  3. Well good photos are not only about sharpness and more often about the colors and mood of the shot. That is why I like the pictures of the 18mp camera more, the colors are nicer and they aren’t oversharpened to a crisp like most phone pictures

  4. I am going to Alaska next year. I only want to take 1 camera. I will take my phone.

And then i have a Canon sx 540 . For film and pictures. Lightweight. 50x zoom.

Then a sony 350 A . With 2 lenses. Heavier. No films can be taken just photos.

    Leaning towards the canon

  5. Can you dismantle it and remove the built in lens and expose the sensor and modify it to accept the c/cs mout lenses to see if this "toy" could be any usable…and seeing its limits…. Yeah i know we will lose the auto focus.. but.. will get better quality images/video than. The current potato pics/vids

  6. Even the agfa 5500 has a tripod mount and that camera is a budget model that is probably better than that unbranded camera my rule of thumb is to spend a minimum of £50 when buying a basic digital camera because that way you will get a decent one for the price that you pay £30 is to cheap you will find that the sensor in cheaper budget compact cameras is 5 mega pixel or less it only intopolates to the size printed on the camera and you only need a 5
Mega pixel picture for a standard 6 buy 4 photo and will even work for up to A4 size people get blinded by mega pixel size that really isn't
    Needed by most people

  7. I'm a few years late in this one know but I still had to ask… Did you look at these photos on an old CRT pc monitor?

Seriously, even in my 4KTV, could I see that those photos look anything BUT rubbish here. If anything I'm more impressed how well they turned out in such a cheaply priced (at the time) Camara.

After all that time, it just sounds like all the bias from using that Pixel 2 influenced your takes on this thing here which just adds to how unfair it was after all that time waiting to see the results of said photos.

  8. As someone who enjoys shooting video on a Digital8 Camcorder as well as with my Sony FX3 and others, this little photo camera is honestly pretty cool. All cameras are kinda cool, photo- / videography is fun and great in general.
People in the past would be crazy about having the ability to take nice looking images in such a compact and affordable format.
Every camera has it's unique charm and character.

Phones can be kind of meh, but it really comes down to putting more thought into the images you take on them – framing, lighting, ISO, colours, f-Stop, etc. can be manually adjusted and it's the job of the photographer to decide.

This reminds me of the experiment where they compared a proper analogue camera with a disposable one and the film came out looking unique and each camera had it's own character.

You could cut a hole into a box, put a lens on it and burn the image on some special paper and if you put thought into it, it can come out great.

  9. I would love to carry this around in my pocket all the time and take photos with it. Also it'd be a great gift for a child who might be interested in photography… Or throwing small plastic objects
