Big Tech Providing Healthcare??? – A Future Bit From The Medical Futurist

I’ve noticed in several Facebook announcements that show how much Meta is focusing on VR workout and fitness products and other health-related services from rehabilitation to physical therapy.

Which opened up a bigger conversation for us. Why does every tech company focus on healthcare these days? And what makes them think they can provide care?

Healthcare is a gigantic business, ripe for disruption, and tech companies have the ability, the innovation, and the financial background to enter this industry. This is why we not only extensively covered the journey of Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA and IBM, into healthcare but applauded it, too.

But now something else is happening.

Recently Best Buy has signed an agreement to acquire Current Health, a leading care-at-home technology platform that brings together remote patient monitoring, telehealth, and patient engagement in a virtual care solution.

This is simply mind-blowing!
And the list goes on with non-medical companies tapping into healthcare. In this video, I am explaining everything.

  1. Medical Biller/Medical Receptionist here, spent four years working for a private sector hospital under the management of a West Coast-style CEO before I jumped ship to my local VA hospital. I started off laughing at your video but about a minute in I started remembering the attitude I'd always see at monthly and quarterly meetings and… yeah this can and probably will totally happen. The attitude to try something this stupid is definitely there. It will ultimately fail, extremely hard in some cases, but if it forces the established companies to up their game like you think it will, it will be a good thing for all of us.

  2. would it not be better if dunkin donots actually pledges itself to reducing obesity by introducing its own line of weight reduction clinics.
or if marlboro takes the responsibility for smoking related illnesses in its customers.
That would make them more responsible for what they sell

  3. would love to know why the guy that created polio vaccine didn't patent it but bill gates and others were and still are against waiving the covid vaccine patent… or maybe i'm just a conspiracy theorist to even question such a thing.

  4. i noticed you turned off the comments on some of your videos…. why? esp on your spreading misinformation videos….. how can one know the information they have and are spreading is incorrect information if they keep it to themselves?? isn't it better for them to share their information so others can correct it??

  5. Hi Dr I asked one time but pls let me ask it again sir

  6. As an health care industry insider I can confirm that medical services in cars is definitely that is being looked into. However this makes the whole car a medical product thus requiring certification.

  7. Berlan, thanks for the video, great as always! How do you see facebook's monopoly on meta ? Do you think it's a smart move to lead the virtual healthcare as a pioneer?
I myself see that even if other headsets come out such as apple's, since the pioneer idea starts from Facebook's meta, every new health service will be using meta's platform, meta ecosystem, so.. how will other big techs position themselves in this context ..?

  8. Many great points you drop here. I truly agree with your view and I believe it's going to happen much faster than people realize.

I recently read the newly published book "AI 2041", by Kai-Fu Lee, where he lays out 10 different scenarios for the near future of 2041. I highly recommend that book for a bit of insight on where technology is heading with the current developing technologies. He doesn't even speculate on new ideas and "black swan" events, still it is a must read for your listeners.

The future of healthcare is all about personal data sharing and it's going to be hard for the healthcare system today to capitalize on that when big tech owns access to the data. When you can use tele health and have a doctor in another part of the world and so on. AI and deep learning will replace most of doctors routine and repetative jobs.

Keep up the good work Bertalan!
