Correspondent Kris Van Cleave talks with Mary Barra, General Motors’ second-longest-serving CEO, about the company’s expanding electric vehicle lineup. He also takes a “high-speed” tour of GM’s Milford Proving Ground in Michigan, which has been a hub for automotive innovation for a century, and gets behind the wheel of GM’s soon-to-be-released electric Cadillac Escalade IQ.

I’m not buying an EV
Note: EPM-2, U.S. Patent No. 9641045B2, maintain battery charge of an electric vehicle, operates independently. EPM-2 leverages innovative electromagnetic technology to transform magnetic energy into mechanical and electrical energy. This makes it a sustainable and efficient alternative to combustion engines and traditional renewable energy methods.
You did it Mary!!
She's ruining General Motors. The average Joe can't buy a vehicle (electric or gas) and none of the American builders seem to care.
i don't care about gm ceo's.
not a huge Gm fan but i like her she seems like she knows what shes doing and a good person. Also that Corvette is fire
Japan has a truck that can float turn around like a tank anywhere from 60000 to 100,000
130,000 who is going to be able to afford that besides Rich Spiegel
All the typical EV hater disinformation present in comments, all easily debunked with a quick search. Over 6 years driving evs, it's great, driven gas vehicles for decades, I'm done with them
Ban EV'S
Nikola, Lordstown Motors, Cruise, China Restructuring? So many multi billion dollar losers to pick from.
Battery technology just isn’t advanced enough yet.
People who bought EVs, are not buying another one.
I don't like self-driving cars. Who decided it was ok to let drivers take their hands off the steering wheel? This feature is easily abused. In an emergency, a driver who is not paying attention will not be able to assume control in time.
For that matter, I don't like all-electric cars. I think GM has made a mistake going all in on all electric. They cancelled the hybrid Volt, a car with high owner satisfaction numbers. They sold Opel, which had been owned by GM for nearly a century and which heloed GM nake better cars. (I have a Cruze, which is an Opel. It's a good car, but now it us history.). I do not have confidence in FM's direction.
I love my chevy bolt
China is building a similar truck for $30k. So yeah, she is doing the right thing to stay competitive.
GM acts like it competes against German or Italian luxury and sports cars. Theres no comparison.
You know how think run with batteries. They don't last long . And if you get into a accident you well be trapped inside.
Those vehicles well not run long in cold weather and heavy storms.
The EV boondoggle continues 😂
I am not reluctant; I am not rich. Make a simple, affordable electric car and we will have a reason to buy them. Maybe a farmer like Henry Ford needs to intervene.
I don’t understand how Tesla and GM are in the same country. Has GM been blind or deaf for these years while Tesla doing its thing?
She’s done NOTHING but stock buybacks..16 billion worth.
you are saying you are giving people choice but yet you are going to switch all vehicles to all electric??? Not much of a choice to me
Gm is nothing it used to be
Want to get people on board? Get a fast charge capability
We need more people in the USA to get their motorcycle endorsement.
GM sales are plunging. Why didnt they ask DEI CEO Marry Barra about that?
What's the point of having so many vehicle models with minimal sales? 🤔
Having no cheap fast cars like the cobalt SS now is insane
Revving up what?
early adopters who don't mind paying $40-50k for an EV dried up. Now you need some $20-30k EVs to expand the market.
Cadillac audio system sounds worse than a Ford Focus. You're paying twice the price for a mediocre product.
Mary is the worst thing to ever happen to GM
Tesla "Wall Steet Darling" since when. Tesla is one of the most shorted stocks. Who wrote and who approved this?
GM's EV plan requires executive team take Rosetta Stone Mandarin courses.
How is it going, Mary? Is GM leading? 32,095 EV deliveries in Q3 2024? While Tesla delivered 462,890 EV's in the same quarter.
MB…worst CEO ever and Ssssssoooooo overpaid!
Tesla sucks as does Musk. I am looking forward to other EV options to help stuff out Musk.
If you have a garage and multiple cars, the transition to EV is simple. In fact, quite likely 90% of the miles racked up will end up being on the EV.
A slow go for sure. I don't think Mary or GM had any idea how hard the transition to EVs would be.
See the corporate greed, man or woman doesn’t mater, I have no interest in GM charging 100 grand for battery operated vehicles it’s so sad of all the GM vehicles the only standard value is the Chevy TRAX bet ya that be electric and charged 40 grand and up to come in the future, no more value in American made vehicles, dealerships don’t care all customers are numbers and not humans, there are a lot of people suffering over inflation and more simple efficient engines and lower priced economy vehicles mass majority of people needs or wants, leave the rich to blow money and pay off vehicles in a heartbeat, let the rest suffer with massive car payments and insurance premiums it’s a sad 😢 situation
Nice to hear GM now siding with Trump iin their auto business by still offering customers a choice of gas or electric and not subscribing the idea of any of Biden`s EV mandates…
Ok, the CBS Sunday Morning correspondent was sent to GM Proving Grounds to talk about EVs saving the world and ended up in a 2025 Corvette ZR1, clearly on purpose, I'm shocked GM did have an EV C8 prototype (or mystery, unknown C8) in the background, look, those car companies that don't have EVs in the segment where they are strong with ICE models are done in 5 years or sooner
You had me at electric but lost me at $130,000
Remember when it took america 40 years to get over the horse & switch to the car?
